Kotmale is a wonderful creation of Mother Nature enjoying the breeze, mountains, valleys, streams and rivers. Kotmale Reservoir is a beautiful city with streams flowing on one side and on the other side of Poona Oya Falls and Ramboda Falls. Also, this area, which is surrounded by mountain gorges and forest gorges, is an aspect of our Sri Lankan heritage that inherits a wonderful way of life that combines the joys and sorrows of the traditional people with the invisible dark side of their lives.
The city of Kotmale is located at an altitude of 3000 to 5200 feet above sea level. The average temperature difference in this area, which is connected to the two plateaus of Kandy and Hatton, is between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius.
Kotmale is an administrative area surrounded by Nawalapitiya Divisional Secretariat in the North, Nuwara Eliya Divisional Secretariat in the South, Walapane and Hanguranketha Divisional Secretariats in the East and Ambagamuwa Divisional Secretariat in the West.
How the name Kotmale came to be ..............
The mountains were all around an equal country
A bright golden tower descended on the same country
Every noble fruit of virtue grew there
The name Kotmala was coined by wisdom Legend has it that due to the pit formed in the field, the field pit later became Kot wala - Kot Mala - Kotmale .
The word 'Malai' can be pointed out as a word that is derived from the Tamil language. In Tamil, it means mountain or hill country. Also, some believe that the tower-like hill became popularly known as 'Kotmale' due to its towering mountainous terrain.
